Important ACT & SAT/PSAT Changes

The ACT and SAT/PSAT have undergone significant changes, especially over the past few years.

• The ACT now consists of only three required tests: English, Math, and Reading. The ACT Science has become optional on Saturday testing. It no longer impacts students' composite scores - following the model of the optional ACT Writing test. ​

• The SAT & PSAT are now fully digital, adaptive, & consist of two required tests: Math and a combined Reading & Writing test. (The SAT Writing questions are multiple-choice and test content similar to the ACT English test.)

Over time, the content on these tests has become more similar; prepping for one can greatly assist with performance on the others. However, test formats and certain content do still differ.  ​​​We have specifically designed our instruction, book, and materials to address these changes and the similarities and differences among the three tests. We strongly encourage students to take both the ACT & SAT, determine which test plays to their strengths, & then focus on retaking that specific test. ​

ACT, SAT, & PSAT Course Options & Materials​​​​​​

1. The ACT & SAT/PSAT Review @ Capital University-$350

College Prep Professionals offers a two-Sunday, 13-hour ACT & SAT/PSAT prep course at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. ​Due to the similarity of the content covered on the ACT & SAT/PSAT, our two-Sunday course allows students to choose to prep for the ACT-Only, the SAT/PSAT-Only, or both for the same $350 price.

•  2-Day Course Schedule: 

  • ​Day 1 & Day 2 starting at 10:00: All students attend and actively work on math and English concepts/problems that are commonly tested on all three tests for the majority of both days. Students interested in both ACT & SAT/PSAT prep attend both days from 10:00 to 4:30. 

  • Day 1 from 3:30 to 4:30: SAT/PSAT-Only reading, math, English, & strategies are taught. ACT-Only students leave at 3:30. 

  • Day 2 from 3:15 to 4:30: ACT-Only reading, math, English, and strategies are taught. SAT/PSAT-Only students leave at 3:15. ​​

  • ACT Science: The ACT Science is now optional. Students who want ACT Science prep can arrive at 9:25 on Day 2 for a science review from 9:30-10:00. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​

• Course Dates: The ACT & SAT/PSAT Review at Capital University is offered seven times per year to help students prepare for the national ACT, SAT, and PSAT test dates & their high school's state-sponsored test junior year. Classes run from 10:00 to 4:30 or earlier depending upon students' test prep preference above.
  The following are the dates for our two-day courses.  Click Register Now.
  2026: Feb. 1 & 8, March 22 & 29, May 24 & 31, June 28 & July 5, Aug. 30 & Sep. 6, Sep. 20 & 27, Nov. 22 & 29
  2027: February 14 & 21, March 21 & April 4, May 23 & 30, June 20 & June 27
  Class is rescheduled if level 2 or 3 snow emergency in Franklin Co.​

 

• Capital University Location: Classes are held in Troutman Hall, room 112;  Capital University address: 1 College and Main St., Bexley, Ohio 43209. Troutman Hall is on Pleasant Ridge between Main & Mound St.  ​Park in the parking lot indicated on the map. Enter Troutman Hall entrance located with red arrow. The Troutman Hall entrance has a brown awning above it. Immediately turn left upon entering. Room 112 is on the left.​

2. The ACT Review, The SAT Review, and The PSAT Review @ Select High Schools

College Prep Professionals offers onsite instruction - The ACT Review, The SAT Review, & The PSAT Review - at select high schools across the Columbus, Central Ohio, & Southern Ohio areas.  Each high school selects the specific course offered, determines its pricing and schedule, and promotes its course. All courses are taught by Dr. Lynn Dailey.

• The ACT Review and The SAT Review are generally offered in the winter during the school day, strategically timed prior to state-sponsored testing for juniors - although some schools do offer weekend or summer courses.  

• The PSAT Review is offered in September or October leading up to the administration of the PSAT in October.

• These onsite courses are six to seven hours long instead of the 13 hours in the Capital University course above, and they are less expensive. All content covered in the 13-hour Capital University course cannot be covered during these shorter high school courses. However, students are given the same ACT, SAT, PSAT materials as students in the 13-hour course, so they can work the remainder of the content on their own.

• Students who attend one of these high school courses are given half-off the 13-hour course offered at Capital University. Contact us directly to receive the discount.

• We are currently offering onsite courses at the following high schools: New Albany, Gahanna, Hilliard, Pickerington, Reynoldsburg, Big Walnut, Canal Winchester, Mount Vernon, Grandview Heights, Logan, Lancaster, Marysville Early College, Westfall, Bloom Carroll, Teays Valley, Rock Hill, Circleville, St. Charles Preparatory, Bishop Hartley, Bishop Ready, Bishop Watterson, and St. Francis DeSales. ​​​

Materials for Mastery

Students in all courses & tutoring will receive our ACT, SAT, & PSAT prep book, worksheets, & memorization sheets to use for out-of-class practice. All strategies, content review, and drills in the book, worksheets, and memorization sheets are noted as ACT/SAT/PSAT, ACT-Only, SAT/PSAT-Only, or SAT-Only, so students can easily review only information that they need and skip unnecessary information.

• Worksheets: Our worksheets act as a diagnostic tool. They have over 550 problems with detailed explanations covering the content reviewed in class with new problems, reinforcing the material learned in class and allowing students to identify concepts they need to study the most. These worksheets direct students to specific page numbers in the book, so they can easily find the content review and drills associated with the concepts they miss, allowing them to more easily determine their weaknesses and improve upon them.

• ACT, SAT, & PSAT Book: Our 175-page, proprietary book has strategies, content review with examples, and over 1,500 drills with explanations. We recommend that students read the entire book and work all of the drills. However, they should prioritize information in the book that they missed on the worksheets. If they have additional time, they can begin to cover information in the book that they already have some strength in. 

• Memorization Sheets: Students will receive math memorization sheets with commonly tested formulas and facts and an English memorization sheet with commonly tested English rules. Students should continuously reference these sheets as they work the drills to help solidify the information in their minds.

Instructor

College Prep Professionals, does not outsource the instruction of any of our courses; all courses are taught by a tenured Capital University professor, Dr. Lynn Dailey. Lynn holds the prestigious Moor Endowed Chair for excellence in teaching & scholarship and excels on standardized tests. For decades, she has been analyzing tests, developing our materials, teaching every course, & doing the majority of our tutoring. Seeing students make similar mistakes over the last two decades has given Lynn a solid understanding of how to teach the material to ensure that students do not make common mistakes on these tests.
